Shenandoah Rose Garden Club was 2014 winner of the
Redbud District Club of the Year Award
The Shenandoah Rose Garden Club, Division I, was organized in November 1964, with the purpose of expanding our knowledge in gardening, conservation and nature, participating in service and community projects, and enlarging social contact.

Meeting September through May on the first Monday morning of each month, our members enjoy light refreshments while the club business is transacted.  A member gives a devotional at each meeting.

Many of our programs have been prepared and given by our own members or have had member participation.  In addition, we have been privileged to hear well-known speakers from the DeKalb Federation, The Garden Club of Georgia, the DeKalb Extension and the Forestry Service, National Flower Show Judges, and prominent garden specialists from local nurseries.  We have also enjoyed touring a number of gardens.

Our club has had four flower shows, each with preceding workshops. Our members have participated in many flower shows sponsored by DeKalb Federation, The Garden Club of Georgia, Decatur Flower Show Association and neighboring garden clubs.  In addition to winning many ribbons, we have served on various committees including: staging, properties, dismantling, horticulture placement, clerks, and hostess.

The club also adopted a project tp update the Neighborhood Directory. The directory was sold to almost 300 homes and we immediately gained a new member. In 2013 the Club again chose the Callanwolde Planters for a beautification project to carry out the NGC Projects "Planting for Public and Special Places" , as well as encourage the "Plant it Pink" emphasis. Plantings have continued twice a year since that time.

In 2014 the club celebrated its 50th Anniversary with an Open House/Reception at the Callanwolde Conservatory for our Friends, Families and Former Members. The afternoon tea was attended by one charter member, Frances Bowen, past members from as far as California, Redbud District Director, Emily Wilbert, and many friends.

In 2015 our club grew from 10 members to 14.  This is directly attributable to our 2014 50th Anniversary reception and ambassador outreach program and the contact made through the revised distribution of the Shenandoah Valley Directory in 2013.

In 2016 the club hosted a community service event “How to Avoid a Midlife Crisis in Your Yard”. More than 35 members attended and we gained two new members.  In the same year, Barbara Maaskant was honored with the DeKalb Federation Club Member of the Year Award. She is the third members in the 50 years of the club’s existence to receive this award.

Actively participating in all programs of the DeKalb Federation, including the H.A.N.D.S. program, we have received the following DeKalb Federation, Redbud District and Garden Club of Georgia State awards during the years.
